Guardiola calls time on Barcelona reign

"I am truly satisfied with what we have achieved," said Josep Guardiola after announcing he will step down as FC Barcelona coach this summer, when Tito Vilanova will take over.

Following a glittering four-year spell at the helm Josep Guardiola has announced his decision to leave his post as coach of FC Barcelona at the end of the season, when he will be replaced by his assistant Tito Vilanova.
Three days after his side were knocked out of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals by Chelsea FC, Guardiola revealed that he would not be renewing his rolling contract with the Camp Nou outfit and is to take a break from football – a decision he disclosed to the club's president, Sandro Rossell, on Thursday.
"These past four years have emptied my reservoirs and now I need to fill them again," said Guardiola in a press conference attended by both journalists and some of his leading players. "That is the fundamental reason that I have announced my era here has finished. A coach needs to have passion and energy with which to infuse his players so that they can approach matches full of enthusiasm.
"This is what I need to recover and I will only get that back by resting. I am truly satisfied with what we have achieved and above all by the way we have achieved it. I would like to thank my players for the privilege it has been to coach them and for helping me to enjoy this job. They made me very happy game after game.
The 41-year-old former Barcelona captain was something of a surprise choice when he was promoted from his position as coach of the club's B team to replace Frank Rijkaard in summer 2008, but his arrival ushered in a period of unprecedented success for the Azulgrana.
Under Guardiola, Barça won three successive Liga titles, lifted the UEFA Champions League trophy in 2009 and 2011 and twice claimed both the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup, all the while playing a brand of free-flowing, passing football that earned global admiration.
During his spell in charge, the likes of Lionel Messi, Xavi Hernández and Andrés Iniesta became widely regarded as three of the best players in the world, with Messi claiming three successive FIFA Ballon d'Or awards.
"There is no better thing for me to leave with the feeling of a job well done, and I say that after we have just lost two titles," added Guardiola. "I am leaving at peace with myself."
Though Barcelona will not defend their European crown this campaign and lie seven points adrift of Real Madrid CF in the Liga with four rounds remaining, the Blaugrana remain on course to win the second Copa del Rey of Guardiola's tenure. Barcelona will meet UEFA Europa League finalists Athletic Club at the Vicente Calderón on 25 May.
The Liga club have elected to retain their policy of recruiting from within by opting for Vilanova as the permanent replacement for Guardiola. The 42-year-old has been Guardiola's trusted assistant coach throughout his reign at the club, including his initial campaign with Barcelona B in the 2007/08 season, and is known to be a popular figure among the players.

DI MATTEO: TOUGH DECISIONS

With an interest in three competitions and two games a week heading into May, the need for squad rotation at Stamford Bridge has rarely been more apparent. Roberto Di Matteo appears to have mastered the art of utilising the group effectively in recent weeks, but the Italian has spoken of the difficulties he faces when leaving players out.
Virtually every member of the playing squad has been involved at one point or another over the course of the past few weeks, and last week's goalless draw at Arsenal saw the interim first team coach make eight changes to personnel.
'It's difficult to leave players out, we have some very good players at this club and unfortunately you have to leave some of them out,' he admitted. 'It's hard when you speak to them and they're not involved or they have to start from the bench.
'Unfortunately, that's part of the job and we just have to get on with it, they just have to be ready for when they're picked. With all the games we've played, most of them have had a fair opportunity.'
Our midweek triumph over Barcelona, somewhat inevitably, has led to calls for Di Matteo to be offered the role on a permanent basis.
His record since taking over is impressive, and while Pep Guardiola has announced he will be stepping down at the Camp Nou at the culmination of this campaign, citing exhaustion as one of the main reasons for his decision, Di Matteo who is much earlier in his time in charge of a Champions League club is simply taking it one step at a time.
'I'm relaxed about it, I'll try my best until the end of the season and try to guide these players to some success,' he said. 'I always have belief in myself but the players have done extremely well to be in this position. We were in a difficult moment for this club, we're still not out of it but we've given ourselves the best chance.
'We love the challenges we have ahead of us, you'd rather play in those finals than not play. When I decided to become a number two, I didn't look at it as a step backwards, I thought it was an exciting journey for myself, the chance to work with one of the best coaches in European football and to work for this club, which is in my heart and which I have a legacy with.
'Guardiola is a role model for our generation in terms of the success he's achieved in such a short space of time, in terms of his methods as well for making his team play the way he does. He's his own man and he's made a decision based on what is best for him so we have to respect that. Sooner or later he'll be back working again.'
In terms of tomorrow's west London derby, Di Matteo will be looking forward to pitting his wits against a man he played alongside at Stamford Bridge in what was one of the most successful periods in the club's history.
Mark Hughes was something of a fans' favourite after signing for the club in 1995, before going on to play an instrumental role in our FA Cup success in 1997 as well as our European Cup Winners' Cup triumph a year later.
The Blues were beaten 1-0 at Loftus Road back in October in an ill-tempered clash which saw both Jose Bosingwa and Didier Drogba dismissed during the first half, but Di Matteo believes his players will be focusing solely on securing three points as we look to apply the pressure on both Newcastle and Tottenham in the race to finish in the top four.
'We played together, we were teammates and won a couple of trophies,' he said. 'I expect an aggressive game, a defensive game, because the majority of teams who come to Stamford Bridge play very defensively, so that's what I expect from QPR.
'I always talk to my players and I will make sure that they are focused on the game rather than everything that surrounds it. We'll have to go full blast while we can still finish in the top four.'

MARIN TO SIGN FOR CHELSEA

Chelsea Football Club have today (Saturday) agreed to sign Marko Marin from Werder Bremen.
Both clubs have agreed a fee and the 23-year-old midfielder has agreed personal terms.
Marin, a German international, will join Chelsea in the summer.
Born in Bosnia and Herzegovina, he moved to Germany with his family at an early age and became a professional player at Borussia Monchengladbach before moving north to Bremen in the summer of 2009.
He made 87 Bundesliga appearances for the club prior to today's announcement, scoring 12 goals. He also played in the 2010 German Cup Final when his side lost to Bayern Munich.
Able to play as winger as well as a central player, Marin is 5ft 7in (170cm) in height and having played for Germany Under 21s, he made his debut for the senior Germany side in May 2008 prior to being part of the squad that won the European Under 21 championships in 2009.
For the senior team he made two substitute appearances during the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and has 16 caps to date with one goal to his name.

Cars Driven by the World's Richest People

Carlos Slim Helu is the world's richest man, according to Forbes. The Mexican telecom giant drives himself to work in his Bentley Continental Flying Spur. But don't let his modest driving habit fool you: the price tag on the car is more than most houses at about $300,000.

Bill Gates' Porsche 959 Coupe is one of only 230 in the world. It took a federal law signed by then-president Bill Clinton to allow the billionaire to drive the car because there was no crash-test rating. The price for such a car? $225,000 when new, they now go for well over $400,000.

Alice Walton, heiress of the Wal-Mart fortune, is the second-richest woman in the world. But her car of choice is a simple 2006 Ford F-150 King Ranch. The trucks retail at around $40,000. With her DUI arrest last year, it might be better that she stick to inexpensive cars.

Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Alsaud, member of the Saudi royal family, drives a Rolls-Royce Phantom. The entry level version of the prince's car costs $246,000, while an upscale version a royal would surely need is a cool $447,000.

Ingvard Kamprad is the founder of Ikea and is worth an estimated $28 billion. But his ride of choice is as humble as the furniture he sells: a 1993 Volvo 240. If the car sold today, it would only be worth about $1500.

New York's mayor and financial data mogul Michael Bloomberg drives an Audi R8. The swanky car retails at $120,000 and goes from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.2 seconds.

Billionaire Larry Ellison, founder of Oracle, is famous for his many cars. Among his most prestigious is this McLaren F1. In 1998, the car was declared the fastest ever to hit the road and its invention is seen as revolutionary. Production of the cars stopped that year and now they can fetch up to $4.1 million each.

Warren Buffett is one of the world's richest men, but his frugality is as well-known as his bank account. The investor drives a Cadillac DTS, which he purchased to support then-flailing American company General Motors. The car retails for around $45,000

Mark Zuckerberg is often seen in a black Acura TSX. The young billionaire has among the cheapest of the rides: the car is valued at about $30,000.

Laptop mogul Michael Dell drives an edgy, 2004 Porsche Boxter. Although a new model could cost you well above $80,000, you could buy this model used for under $20,000.

Microsoft's Steve Ballmer is one of the world's richest men but went for a fairly modest car. He's seen here with the CEO of Ford, taking possession of the Hybrid Fusion. The car retails for about $19,000--well within the budget for a new family car.

Nike founder Phil Knight has a $120,000 Audi R8. Knight, however, went for a bolder approach and got a black model with a contrasting silver sideblade. A Nike employee snapped his car, seen here, at the company's headquarters in Oregon.

Super-rich clothier heir Francois-Henri Pinault shares this Lexus SUV with his gorgeous wife, Salma Hayek. New models run at about $40,000 without customizations.

Laurene Powell Jobs, widow of the legendary Apple founder Steve, drives a silver Audi A5 that's often seen parked outside the family's home in Palo Alto. As a billionaire, she can easily afford the $37,000 starting price.

Google tycoon Eric Schmidt has the most modest car of all: a Toyota Prius. The environmentally-friendly cars start at just $11,000. But don't expect it to last--Schmidt has often spoken about the automated cars of the future.

Snooki Disses Pregnant Jessica Simpson: 'I Would Die if I Were Her Size'

Throughout the last few months, Jessica Simpson has received a lot of negative feedback about the weight she's gained during the course of her pregnancy. In fact, it's gotten so bad that she's not even safe from the scrutiny of other pregnant women. Jersey Shore star Nicole "Snooki" Polizzi, who is also pregnant, slammed the Fashion Star judge for her weight at the MTV Upfronts in New York City on Thursday.

"I would die if I were her size," Snooki told Us Weekly. "She said she indulged in everything that she wanted. I'm trying to [eat] healthy — fruits, lots of jelly and Italian ices. Nothing fattening at all." (Um, Snook, have you ever looked at the sugar count on the side of a jam jar?) Her Shore co-star Pauly D didn't do much to rectify the situation either, saying that Simpson looks like she's "45 months pregnant right now!"

This seems a little harsh, no? It's perfectly normal for a woman to gain a significant amount of weight while pregnant. And should Snooki really be commenting on another pregnant lady's weight? Given that she's only five months along, how does she know she won't get that big herself when the nine-month mark hits? It's not like she doesn't have any experience in over-indulging when she shouldn't (please see Jersey Shore seasons 1-5).

Seriously though, what is the world coming to when even pregnant women can't be nice to each other about their figure? Someone's in need of a serious Guidette time-out.

Juve insist Vidal is not for sale

Juventus have warned Real Madrid against making a bid for midfielder Arturo Vidal.

Arturo Vidal
GettyImagesArturo Vidal has scored six league goals for Juventus in 30 appearances

Vidal, 24, has been a key part of Juve's success this season having signed from Bayer Leverkusen for €10.5 million last summer, and Madrid are said to have approached the player's agent, Fernando Felicevich, to enquire about his availability.
However, Juventus director general Beppe Marotta has insisted that they have no intention of allowing the Chile international to depart.
"I made it clear to Felicevich, and indirectly to Real, that Vidal is not for sale," Marotta said in Tuttosport. "Vidal isn't available for transfer and it has nothing to do with his fee. The simple truth is that Vidal is one of the pillars at Juventus for today and tomorrow."

NFL, Move Over! Hollywood.com Drafts Its Own All-Star Team

Step aside Giants, Patriots, Packers and whatever other teams thinks that it stands a chance to make it to the Super Bowl this year — it's time for Team Hollywood to get in the game. (We'd draft you if we could, Tom Brady and Eli Manning!)

ALT
While we may not be looking for the sweatiest jocks in town, we definitely know how to scout. Whether it's scoping a good arm or projecting a new play, these are the stars that we choose to draft for Team Hollywood. This is guaranteed to be a championship winning team!

Sandra Bullock as Coach
Bullock must be one of the most well collected individuals when it comes to being in front of a camera. She knows how to remain calm when a storm (like Jesse James) attacks — and she always can plan her next strategy. She would be a PR dream come true if it came to leading a football team. And it doesn't hurt that she won an Oscar for role as Leigh Anne Tuohy in The Blind Side. (My pick)

George Clooney as Quarterback

He's great at devising new plays, especially if he's up against Brad Pitt's team. He also isn't deterred by old, grisly-like men who try to tackle him, especially if the playing field is in D.C.

Gina Carano as punter
If she can kick Michael Fassbender's ass, imagine what she could do with a football. (Aly Semigran's pick)

Joe Manganiello as a Running Back

This may be 98 percent based on the fact that he looks really, really good running through the forest in True Blood, so by the transitive property, he’d look great running to catch a pass on the field. The other two percent comes from sheer curiosity: what does a werewolf’s end zone dance look like? (Kelsea Stahler's Pick)

Angelina Jolie as a Running Back
She’d catch the defense standing and staring every time she runs with the ball — especially if she flaunts a leg, Oscars style. This could backfire, however, if the defense tries to tackle her… like, lustfully. (Brian Marder's pick)

Miss Lohan Goes to Washington: LiLo to Attend Correspondents Dinner

Every dinner party has one: Rachel Getting Married had Rachel, The Office had Jan. This particular dinner party, however, just happens to include the President of the United States of America and some more of the most powerful people in entertainment and politics. So Lindsay Lohan might want to be on her best behavior when she attends the White House Correspondents' Dinner on Saturday.

Invited as a guest of Fox's Greta Van Susteren (who was responsible for letting Kim Kardashian in last year) the 25-year-old will be among the Washington and Hollywood elite, including George Clooney, Steven Spielberg, Daniel Day-Lewis, Reese Witherspoon, Charlize Theron, Stevie Wonder, Viola Davis, President Obama’s senior campaign adviser David Axelrod and, of course, President Barack Obama himself.

Lohan's rep told Hollywood.com in a statement, "Lindsay is obviously extremely excited to attend this event with Shawn [Holley, her attorney] at the kind invitation of Greta and her husband."

Of course, even more fun than speculating how Lohan will react to emcee Jimmy Kimmel's inevitable jabs (whatever you do, LiLo, don't follow the cue of last year's ultimate party pooper Donald Trump) is wondering where they'll seat the Mean Girls star. Will they put Lohan (whose ex Samantha Ronson attended 2011's dinner) at the kids table alongside the likes of fellow first-time guests Josh Hutcherson and Zooey Deschanel?

Or will they really shake things up and seat her alongside Attorney General Eric Holder, National Security Adviser Tom Donilon and Army Chief of Staff Gen. Ray Odierno. Imagine that dinner banter, if you will. Go ahead, I'll give you a few minutes. Though, to be fair, she and Clooney might have more talking points than anyone else there.

Nicki Minaj Back on Twitter

It's official, folks: Nicki Minaj is back on Twitter. After a nine-day hiatus, the 29-year-old star reemerged on the social media site, tweeting out love-filled messages to all her fans. But not everyone was quite so willing to forgive the singer's abrupt absence. In fact, Minaj's number of followers have dropped from 11 million to 9.2 million. And while that number is certainly nothing to scoff at (especially in comparison to my number of followers) it still shows quite a dip in her popularity.

We predicted that something like this might end up happening, but the more I think about it, the less angry I am about the whole thing. It's completely natural for people to not really mean the things that they say. We all claim to hate our annoying brothers and sisters, when deep down we know life just wouldn't be the same without them (wedgies and all). So given the fact that celebrities are only human (despite popular belief), we really should cut them some slack.

Besides, Minaj isn't the only one who threatened to pull out of the Twitter game, but couldn't make it stick. Take for example:

Alec Baldwin decided to deactivate his Twitter account following his much talked about confrontation with American Airlines back in Dec. 2011. But at the beginning of January, the 30 Rock star returned to the world of 140 characters and continues to tweet his words with friends/followers on a regular basis.

Demi Moore went on a 3 month hiatus from the social media realm during her brief stint in rehab, however, the actress is now back and in search of a brand new Twitter name. We just happened to have a few suggestions for her. What a coincidence!

Ashton Kutcher handed over his account to his management team after he condemned the firing of Penn State coach Joe Paterno before knowing the actual reasoning behind the decision. Talk about a Twitter faux pas! But the Two and a Half Men star couldn't stay away for long and posted a photo of himself in the country that very same month. Even the cow is judging him.

Amanda Bynes threatened to quit both Twitter and acting, but eventually came back around to the social networking site. We're still waiting on the whole acting thing. But she's got other things on her mind right now.

Miley Cyrus stopped using Twitter in 2009 because she wanted to live a more private life. An understandable reason for any celeb, but it seems she's had quite the change of heart since then.

Rapper Kanye West decided to take a break from the social network scene for a while, but made his return this past January — endlessly entertaining rants and all. I guess we're gonna let himself finish, but...

Pop star Demi Lovato took two Twitter breaks, one in 2010 and one earlier this year. The 19-year-old singer stopped tweeting earlier this year when she reportedly broke up with her boyfriend and needed some time away from the Twitterverse.

We're still waiting for you, John Mayer!

Selena Gomez Sings with the Late Selena

It looks like Selena Gomez will be the latest singer to work with a beloved (yet deceased) artist — the original Selena (Quintanilla-Pérez) herself. The 19-year-old star was one of the select few chosen to record a song on Enamorada De Ti — a tribute album honoring the late Latin songstress — and JustJared.com reports that the late singer will actually be accompanying her on the track.

"I was completely honored when they asked me to be on the tribute CD," Gomez said. "When I went into the studio to record, they actually had her vocals in the booth that she was in, so I felt like she was singing right next to me."

This isn't the first time the music business has made a deceased artist rise from the dead. Tupac Shakur's hologram performance at the Coachella Music Festival was all anyone could talk about a few weeks back. And, on Thursday, it was reported that the late Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes is set to undergo the hologram treatment and reunite with her former TLC band mates for a tour later this year.

Thanks to the insane technology that's out there, we're now able to basically resurrect the dead — or at least create a pretty good illusion. But all these dead singer revivals are getting a little out of hand at this point. Doing something like this once made it seem like a special way to pay tribute to a beloved artist of the past, but now that the practice has picked up so much popularity, it's beginning to feel more like a publicity stunt than anything else.

If this keeps up there won't be a need for any new talent in the music business ever again. When the artists we already have can last forever, then what would be the point, right? (Oh no, but what about American Idol?). Let's put an end to this while we still can and let these singers rest in peace! Don't you agree

Hangover Review

It's a concept so simple I'm amazed no one has ever done it before. Three guys take their groom-to-be friend to Vegas, spend a wild night on the Strip, and wake up the next morning unable to remember a single thing. Forced to retrieve both their memories and their missing betrothed buddy, the guys can go through a series of comedic setpieces that don't really have to fit into any kind of narrative, and so long as they eventually recover from their hangover, it counts as a character arc.

The fundamentally lazy premise of The Hangover doesn't seem to bother director Todd Phillips, who tackles the story with loose comedic timing and a willingness to follow the actors wherever they want to take it. Luckily he's picked Ed Helms, Bradley Cooper and priceless newcomer Zach Galifianakis to lead this trip, and it's what those three contribute to the largely funny script that makes The Hangover so improbably gut-busting.

The movie opens when the shit has already hit the fan, with Phil (Cooper) calling the bride-to-be (Sasha Barrese) and confessing that they might not be able to track down the groom (Justin Bartha) after all. A flashback to two days earlier sets up all the necessary character details-- Helms is a nerdy dentist terrified of his harridan fiancee (Rachael Harris), Phil is a cocky golden boy organizing the Vegas adventure, and Alan (Galifianakis) is the weirdo brother-in-law to be brought along only out of a sense of duty. The exposition is only occasionally funny and seriously slows down the momentum; things don't really get started again until the guys gather on the roof of Caesar's Palace, toast one another with shots of Jaeger, then wake up worse for the wear the morning after.

And what happens from there is really best left unspoiled, though you've probably already heard about the best parts-- the tiger in the bathroom, the Mike Tyson cameo, Heather Graham as a happy hooker, Ken Jeong as a lisping Chinese gangster who's way funnier than the character probably deserves to be. Stealing the whole thing from all the more experienced film actors around him is Galifianakis, whose dazed one liners and loopy facial expressions don't grow old even when the plot does. Whether getting tazed in the face by Rob Riggle's enthusiastic cop, peppering a steak for an angry tiger or caring for the foundling baby he dubs Carlos, Galifianakis seems to have stepped in from another movie-- another planet, even-- and lends The Hangover the only originality it has.

Because, let's face it-- even though it's about piecing things together in the cruel light of day, The Hangover is really just another entry into the "one crazy night" genre, a Superbad for grown-ups who can afford suites at Caesar's Palace. The fact that it's still funny, though, is a credit to the script's willingness to go the extra crazy mile, letting characters kick cell phones away from children, attempt to sacrifice a random acquaintance at the hands of gangsters, and pee in Mike Tyson's pool. In turn the actors toe the line between boys-will-be-boys raunch and becoming outright sociopaths, letting us wish we could be along for the fun ride but secretly knowing we want to stay 10 feet away from them at all times.

It's worth noting that The Hangover severely fails its few female characters, from the hilarious Rachael Harris as the meanie girlfriend to Graham, who is warmer and funnier in her few scenes than she's been in years, but gets abandoned to take care of the baby so the guys can continue on their adventure. Why couldn't she come along? Why can't the guys treat women as anything other than objects or the ol' ball-and-chain? Sure, this is a movie about men and their weird bonding rituals, and throwing in a token girl might have ruined the beautiful vibe between the three leads. But as another entry into the "real men secretly fear women" canon of guy comedies this decade, The Hangover feels like a continued step in the wrong direction.

And yet. If you're male or if you're female, if you're squeamish about raunchy comedy or if you love it, if you're aware of Zach Galifianakis' patented brand of absurdity or if you're new to it, you will laugh at The Hangover. You may laugh so hard that you're a little ashamed of enjoying something so silly. And after quoting all the best lines with your friends, you may still be laughing so hard that you want to see it again. Comedies this good don't happen by accident, even if a little organization could have made The Hangover much better than what it is.

Our weekly poem

A POOL.
 (Sign careful)

Oooh! What again is that four letter word hard to describe?
easy to pronounce, write and read but unfairly lived
Can we love without illusions? Why then do we bribe?
Some said a mutual love is natural, we believed
Yes we sacrificed our hearts, and joined the tribe
We learned to appreciate, for we longed to be saved
Time like mime, never shouts it does jibe
No sooner had we realized, the heartbeats were engraved
while others had walked miles not to scribe
“we long to love and be loved” a battle to be survived.
Being devoted, stand firm strong and stable
Take your way and lubricate others to be moved
A swimmer trains oneself on water-depth desirable
Yees! Make a difference, will you? We long to love and be loved.

Different reports on the match played Chelsea Vs Barcelona on their official websites

STARTING WITH THE WINNERS CHELSEA

Summary There cannot have been many nights more dramatic nor heroic in the history of Chelsea Football Club.
Having gone 2-0 behind on the night and one man down in the first half, we scored in stoppage time at the end of each half to book a date in Munich for our second Champions League Final.
John Terry was the man sent off. Ramires was the first Chelsea scorer with a brilliant goal before Lionel Messi missed the chance to put his side 3-1 ahead when he wasted a penalty.

With the pressure on, substitute Fernando Torres scored a late, late goal on the counter-attack from his own half. The only disappointment on a joyous night is that Ramires, Branislav Ivanovic and Raul Meireles were all booked and so will join the skipper in missing the Final.

Team news Didier Drogba was passed fit so Roberto Di Matteo named the same side as the first leg.

Barcelona did change however, bringing in Gerard Pique and going to three at the back. Both full-backs at the Bridge were on the bench with Issac Cuenca coming in and playing wide on the right with Cesc Fabregas on the left. The formation was the same as deployed in Camp Nou in the previous round against AC Milan.
First half Chelsea kicked off and had the ball inside the Barça penalty area within 18 seconds, but Cole's pass was too strong for Ramires and Valdes collected.
The visitors were awarded the first free-kick too, for a foul on Mata on halfway.
But then Barcelona attacked and Messi had his first chance with two minutes played. He put it into the side-netting from inside the area.
The pressure stayed on for almost the whole of the rest of the half and there was a problem for the Blues on six minutes when the ball was played behind Cahill to Sanchez. In recovering, the big Chelsea defender slipped and almost did the splits. He needed treatment but after a spell off the pitch, initially continued.
Iniesta lobbed a ball into the six-yard box that Cole booted clear before finally, on 11 minutes, Cahill had to limp off dejectedly to be replaced by Bosingwa. Ivanovic went into central defence.
Barcelona v Chelsea
It wasn't only Chelsea players in the wars. On 17 minutes Drogba chased a Cech kick that bounced high up field and in clearing it, Valdes collided with Pique. Both needed treatment and the Barcelona central defender looked in some distress, but given recovery time he was back in action.
On 19 minutes it was Cech's time to turn hero. A trademark exchange of passes by the home team cut through the Chelsea defence, Fabregas backheeling into the path of Messi, but with the Camp Nou crowd drawing breath to celebrate, our keeper's leg extended and made the save.
There was a rare Chelsea attempt from Drogba at the midway point of the half but on the swivel and from distance, he shot well over.
Barcelona v Chelsea
He was much closer to the target two minutes later after muscling past Pique but lacking support, he took on Valdes from a very narrow angle and could only ripple the sidenetting.
That was the end of Pique's game. The previous Chelsea attack had convinced Pep Guardiola the player was still suffering from his bang on the head and he brought on Dani Alves. They didn't change their shape with the diminutive substitute deployed as one of the back three.
Referee Cüneyt Çakir had given Chelsea no cause for complaint with his decisions so far but he did make Mikel his first booking, the midfielder catching Sanchez with an outstretched leg inside the Barça half.
Three minutes later the home team took the lead. The move was similar to many during the half but for once Chelsea found ourselves outnumbered as the ball was played wide to the left. Messi was out there and he squared to Busquets who side-footed in from six-yard out.
Barcelona v Chelsea
Any chance for consolidation after that set-back for Roberto Di Matteo's men was blown out the water just two minutes later with the straight red card for Terry. The ref decided that the skipper had kneed Sanchez in the back on the edge of the area in an off-the-ball incident.

A tough task had just become immensely harder and Barcelona rubbed home the advantage with three minutes left on the clock before the interval. Meireles conceded possession and Messi was able to slip the ball forward to Iniesta who had run away behind Ramires. The finish was low to Cech's left and for the first time in the tie Chelsea were behind on aggregate.
Ramires was booked too and would miss the Final as well as Terry should the team find a way back from this.
They certainly made a good start in that quest. With just a minute of stoppage time left to play we won the ball inside the Barça half and Lampard slotted the perfect pass through to Ramires. There was no way the Barça defence was going to catch the Brazilian whose chip over Valdes was as exquisite as it was essential to restore belief before the break.
Barcelona v Chelsea
With the score 2-2 on aggregate, it was Chelsea heading to the Final as it stood.
Second halfBarcelona made an alteration to the way they lined up with Alves now wide on the right and Cuenca switching wings. Iniesta had a shot deflected wide after Messi chested down.
Then just three minutes into the half the Blues looked certain to go behind in the tie when Drogba tripped Fabregas inside the area but Messi fired the penalty on to the crossbar. The Argentinian's search for his first goal against Chelsea went on.
Barcelona v Chelsea
If that was good news, Ivanovic's booking in the aftermath of the penalty award wasn't. He joined Terry and Ramires in earning a suspension.
Iniesta was the first Barça player booked for a trip on Drogba, shortly before the Ivorian tried to catch Valdes by surprise with a shot from the halfway line. The only thing caught was the ball by the keeper.
Di Matteo decided on new legs just before the hour, replacing Mata with Kalou, and a minute later Cech was booked for taking too long over a goal-kick. He at least was not facing a ban.
It was all Barcelona pressure and Cech saved from Cuenca after Mikel had lost the ball. On 63 minutes Chelsea broke out of our shackles and Drogba won a corner. Played in by Lampard, Ivanovic got to it first but frustratingly, couldn't send it on target.
The cards kept coming, Messi for a foul on Lampard and Lampard for upending Fabregas. And still Chelsea hung on to our away-goals lead as shot after shot and pass after pass were blocked.
There was no one in the way when the ball fell invitingly for Busquets on 77 minutes but he shot over wastefully.
Two minutes later Torres came on for Drogba who had worked tirelessly up front with his team-mates mostly a long way behind. He had also played his part as ever in clearing opposition corners.
Barcelona did have the ball in the net on 80 minutes through Sanchez but Alves who supplied the cross was offside. Then Messi shot on-target and it was turned onto the post by the finger tips of Cech.
We were inside the final 10 minutes and now every Barça mistake was drawing a frustrated reaction from the crowd. When Chelsea won the ball, we by and large cleared it into the open spaces up the field, although Torres missed one chance to counter attack by taking a heavy touch.
With 88 minutes of the game played Meireles picked up his fifth booking of the campaign for a trip so he too was now suspended.
Cech pushed a Mascherano shot round the post and we were into stoppage time. It was time for the most dramatic of endings.
Barcelona were so committed forward that when the ball was cleared up field by Ivanovic, Torres was in his half with no-one between him and Valdes. He took the ball on and went past the keeper before slotting in, as he had done so many times in the past against this opposition - and it was good night Barcelona!

ON THE SIDE OF  FCBARCELONA'S WEBSITE THEY REPORTED THE FOLLOWING
The FC Barcelona players are disappointed that they didn’t make it to the Champions League final. “It’s a painful way to go out because we were superior. The result in Stamford Bridge is what did us in,” said Cesc Fàbregas after the match. When Barça went up 2-0 the team had its sights set on Munich, however Chelsea scored two goals from two chances and killed off the tie. The Azulgrana midfielder said that “we played a great game, we dominated and we created a lot of chances. We didn’t sacrifice our style.”

A very difficult defeat

“It’s painful to be eliminated this way, seeing that we had a lot of chances to score,” said a very up-front Cesc, who added “it’s a very hard blow.” The midfielder, however, reassured hit teammates and Barça fans that “we have to hold our heads high” and that next year “we’ll have the chance to do important things.” He added that the players have shown “that they can better themselves.”

The players must look forward and think about “the last four games in La Liga and the King’s Cup final.” Fàbregas said that it’s too early to make a judgement on his team’s season and that “we have to keep looking forward. We have to react quickly, even if it’s only for our fans.”

10 out of 10 for the fans

Despite the defeat, the midfielder congratulated the supporters for their amazing attitude and for cheering on the team. “I’ve never seen the Camp Nou like that after a defeat,” said Cesc. He added that Barça “are a big team” because it has incredible “players, managers and fans.”

Here are the statements made by the some of the players on Twitter after the match:

Isaac Cuenca

“We fought until the end. Fans, I’m very sorry. We’ll pick ourselves up with your help #forçabarça”

Iniesta

“It’s a difficult and hard moment. We did everything to be in the Munich final, but it wasn’t meant to be...”

Alves

“I’d like to thank all the Culés for your support and, at the same time, apologize for what happened. We tired but it wasn’t meant to be”

Jose Mourinho says he'll likely stay

MADRID -- Jose Mourinho says he will likely remain coach of Real Madrid beyond this season with the Spanish leader playing for a spot in the Champions League final.
Mourinho is under contract until 2014 and has repeatedly refused to confirm whether he will see out the full four years of his deal. He is reportedly linked to a return to Chelsea or another English club, Manchester City.
Speaking before Wednesday's semifinal against Bayern Munich, the Portuguese coach said: "I think I will continue. There's no reason for me to leave."
Mourinho says he will speak with his players and club officials at the end of the season to determine whether it's in everyone's interests for him to stay.
Madrid trails Bayern 2-1 going into the return leg.

iPad controlled home

Jake Wallis Simons meets a woman who can remote control her house by iPhone and iPad. She can even turn her children's TVs off from anywhere in the world
I do feel a little bit like I’m living in the future,” says Jane Gibson, coyly. “But you get used to things. Automation has become part of everyday life.”
Reader, if you harbour even the slightest Luddite tendency – if you worry about your children playing video games, dislike the idea of Kindles, or fret that social networking will make traditional friendships obsolete – look away now. When it comes to technology, the Gibson family pulls no punches.
In fact, they have built their lives around it. Almost every room in their 150-year-old, four-bedroom, stone farm house in Yorkshire has at least one television (the house has eight in total), all of which are centralised and can play any film or television show on demand. They also host a bewildering variety of computer games.
The heart of the house – or as Jane puts it, “the room we spend most of our lives in” – is a fully automated home cinema, with a seven-feet screen on which they can watch films, television and browse the internet. And when they’ve finished doing that, the two boys, Thomas, 14, and Ryan, 12, take over the big screen for some PlayStation fun (their favourite game at the moment is Assassin’s Creed).
“But they can’t just watch and play whatever they like,” says Jane. “Even if I’m out of the house, I can see exactly what they’re watching on my iPad. If I don’t approve, I can press the ‘lockout’ button and the screen will automatically go dead until the following morning.”
