Arusha — Tanzania expects to resurrect the gemstones exhibition this year at the last week of next month to enable the country to showcase her mineral potential. The exhibition, held in Arusha, was halted over a decade ago after some uncouth traders abused the show regulations which warranted the government banning it in late 1990s.
The exhibitions were held annually for nine consecutive years until 1998 due to some dealers who were allegedly accused of abusing the gemstones licenses to their gain.
The Arusha International Gem, Jewellery and Mineral Fair organizing Chairman, Mr. Abe Suleiman, said the four-day event will be held at Mount Meru Hotel April from 26 to 29 in Arusha city.
The fair will entail showing rough and cut stones, jewellery, lapidary equipment and education. We have invited a number of stakeholders worldwide," Mr. Suleiman said.
According to Suleiman, the buyers are expected to come from the USA, Canada, Brazil, Europe, Indi, Thailand, Australia, Japan, and South Africa and from the region.
