Selena Gomez Sings with the Late Selena

It looks like Selena Gomez will be the latest singer to work with a beloved (yet deceased) artist — the original Selena (Quintanilla-Pérez) herself. The 19-year-old star was one of the select few chosen to record a song on Enamorada De Ti — a tribute album honoring the late Latin songstress — and JustJared.com reports that the late singer will actually be accompanying her on the track.

"I was completely honored when they asked me to be on the tribute CD," Gomez said. "When I went into the studio to record, they actually had her vocals in the booth that she was in, so I felt like she was singing right next to me."

This isn't the first time the music business has made a deceased artist rise from the dead. Tupac Shakur's hologram performance at the Coachella Music Festival was all anyone could talk about a few weeks back. And, on Thursday, it was reported that the late Lisa 'Left Eye' Lopes is set to undergo the hologram treatment and reunite with her former TLC band mates for a tour later this year.

Thanks to the insane technology that's out there, we're now able to basically resurrect the dead — or at least create a pretty good illusion. But all these dead singer revivals are getting a little out of hand at this point. Doing something like this once made it seem like a special way to pay tribute to a beloved artist of the past, but now that the practice has picked up so much popularity, it's beginning to feel more like a publicity stunt than anything else.

If this keeps up there won't be a need for any new talent in the music business ever again. When the artists we already have can last forever, then what would be the point, right? (Oh no, but what about American Idol?). Let's put an end to this while we still can and let these singers rest in peace! Don't you agree
